A man was shot dead Monday in Miller County after he allegedly broke into his ex-wife’s house armed with a rifle, according to a Thursday news release from the Miller County Sheriff’s Office.
The man, who was 35, was pronounced dead at the scene by emergency medical personnel, according to the news release.
Deputies with the Sheriff’s Office were dispatched around 6:30 p.m. Monday to a residence on Big Oak Lane near Brumley for a report of a home invasion and shooting, according to the news release.
The caller reported her ex-husband kicked in the door to the residence and was armed with a rifle, according to the news release. She reported a man who was in the house with her shot the man who broke in, according to the release.
A thorough investigation into the incident was conducted and remains active, according to the news release. The case will be forwarded to the Miller County Prosecuting Attorney’s Office for review following the completion of the investigation, according to the news release.
The release did not state whether the man who fired the gun is suspected of a crime, and it said the Sheriff’s Office will not comment further at this time.
The incident was isolated, and there is no threat to the public, according to the release.
The Sheriff’s Office said it is not releasing the identity of the man who died due to the ongoing nature of the investigation and out of respect for the people involved.
