Pierce Township residents report black bear sighting
PIERCE TOWNSHIP, Ohio —
Police are urging people to be cautious as residents in Pierce Township report seeing a black bear in the area.
The Pierce Township Police Department shared a photo of the black bear, which was seen at the end of Kipling Crossing.
Police said residents have reported seeing a bear roaming the area, near woods.
It comes as confirmed bear sightings in the Greater Cincinnati area have increased recently, particularly in Ohio.
Last year broke the record for sightings with 537 sightings across 69 counties in 2025, about 160 more than in 2024.
Bear sightings usually peak in late May through early July.
Officials are urging people to be cautious if a bear has been spotted in their area. Tips include securing trash in garages or bear-proof containers, temporarily removing bird feeders, keeping pet food indoors and cleaning grease from outdoor grills.
