Spain secured its first World Cup title since 2010 and second in the country’s history with a thrilling 1-0 victory over Argentina Sunday at MetLife Stadium in East Rutherford, NJ.
Ferran Torres put Spain ahead with the go-ahead goal in the 106th minute of extra time with Argentina down to 10 men after a red card.
In a touching moment after the match, Spain’s 19-year-old phenom, Lamine Yamal, embraced his childhood hero, Lionel Messi, in what could be the 39-year-old GOAT’s final game for Argentina.

President Trump briefly appeared to pose with Spain’s team as they posed for a triumphant trophy lift photo.
But FIFA President Gianni Infantino was seen nudging him away to give Spain’s team its moment.
The president had been greeted with boos when he entered the field earlier to present the awards.

President Trump, FIFA President Gianni Infantino, and their entourage have come onto the field to deliver the golden World Cup trophy to Spain after Madrid’s epic 1–0 victory over Argentina in the final.
Match officials were given their medals first by Trump and Infantino, who shook their hands.

Then Trump, Infantino, Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum, and Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney began handing out the medals and trophies to Spain’s champion team.
Afterward, they gave the awards to Argentina for being the runner-up.

Lamine Yamal and Lionel Messi shared a moment after the match, as the 19-year-old star walked over to the G.O.A.T. and the two embraced.
The moment could be one that is remembered for years to come as one where one of soccer’s greatest players passed the torch to the young rising star.

The 2026 World Cup champions have been celebrating on the field as workers are setting up the stage for the trophy presentation.
The party is on for those Spain fans here at MetLife Stadium.
Argentina has remained on the pitch as well, though the mood is much different for them following the World Cup final performance.

SPAIN ARE WORLD CUP CHAMPIONS!
They defeat Argentina 1-0 in the 2026 Final at New York New Jersey Stadium, securing their second World Cup crown 16 years after their first.
De la Fuente’s side dominated, but an inspired Martinez kept them out until Fernandez was sent off for a second bookable offense in second-half stoppage time.
Spain thought they had the lead when Williams fired home, but the goal was ruled out for a foul on Otamendi by Merino.
However, Spain didn’t give up, and Torres rifled the ball into the roof of the net just 37 seconds into the second half of extra time, teed up by Williams.
It wasn’t to be for Messi, who likely played his final World Cup match, but even he would agree Spain were worthy winners.
They finished with an xG of 1.94 from 20 shots to Argentina’s 0.2 from two attempts.
Spain started their campaign with a draw against debutants Cape Verde, making their triumph even more remarkable.

Spain, Argentina players get into shoving match

A fight nearly broke out after the final whistle in the World Cup final.
As Spain began to celebrate, an Argentina player ran over and shoved Spain defender Eric García to the ground, igniting a larger confrontation that led to pushing and shoving between both sides before cooler heads prevailed.
It wasn’t immediately clear what led to the incident.
