A family doctor in northern Maine has been stranded in Canada since April and is suing the federal government in an effort to return home.
In the lawsuit, the physician is identified by the pseudonym “Doctor Afshar.”
Afshar is a Canadian-Iranian citizen who lives legally in Presque Isle on an H-1B visa.
According to the lawsuit, she briefly crossed the Fort Fairfield port of entry in April to obtain a passport stamp needed to renew her driver’s license.
Instead, she says she was detained for 10 hours and has since been denied reentry into the United States.
Afshar has filed a federal lawsuit seeking to reunite with her husband, 12-year-old daughter and the patients who rely on her medical care.
