Portland Fire shooting guard Bridget Carleton showed off a bit Friday night during the WNBA All-Star weekend, posting a huge score in her opening round to make the finals of the 3-point shootout.
Carleton was the second shooter to take the floor during the contest and set the bar high by making 21 of 27 (77.8%) to finish with 29 points – the high score of the qualifying round. She knocked down all five balls on her final rack and missed only once from the corner spots.
“I was just focused on taking my time and once you see the first few go in, I’m usually pretty confident after that,” Carleton said. “It was a good round – I like corner threes.”
She went up against Dallas Wings rookie Azzi Fudd in the head-to-head final round, and Fudd caught fire posting a 30-point round that saw her knock down seven ‘money balls’ that were worth double points.
Carleton followed with a 19-point score in the final round to finish second.
The WNBA all-star game is set for 5:30 p.m. Saturday, televised on ABC.
