MADISON, Wis.— MGE Peregrine Falcon Monarch is making progress in his recovery from a fractured leg, according to the Dane County Humane Society.
Earlier this week, veterinarians determined his leg had healed enough to remove the external fixator and surgical pins.
DCHS said Monarch will remain on strict cage rest until his recheck next week, and if his recovery stays on track, he will be moved into a mew- a specialized outdoor rehabilitation enclosure where he’ll have limited activity to avoid putting too much stress on his leg.
Additionally, the humane society said each stage of his rehab will depend on how well his leg continues to heal and his strength and abilities develop. If all goes well, he will gradually advance to larger enclosures to build his flight and hunting skills in preparation of release back into the wild.
