RAPID CITY, S.D. (KOTA) – A hip-hop festival in Rapid City is doubling as a canned food and school supply drive to support families on the Pine Ridge Reservation.
Organizers say attendees can bring donations and receive raffle tickets for a chance at prizes, including a 43-inch flat-screen TV and $100 gift cards to local restaurants in Rapid City and Deadwood.
The event also features a lineup of local and regional artists, with organizers highlighting performances from Rapid City based acts as well as musicians traveling in from surrounding states. The line-up featured Truly Veda, Awkward, Half Dead, Guardian Angel, HB Dior, Kung Fu Vampire and Whitney Peyton.
Organizers say the goal is to pair entertainment with community support, adding that they hope to expand the event into a larger, multi-day festival in the future.
They also say future charity events are planned later this year, including a holiday-season toy drive.
