SCARBOROUGH, Maine (WGME) — Scarborough officials are informing beachgoers about a potential great white shark sighting near the southern tip of Richmond Island, Crescent Beach State Park, Higgins Beach, and Pine Point Beach.
On Monday, Scarborough’s Marine Resource Officer received a report of what appeared to be a large shark near Richmond Island and Scarborough Beach.
Officials say they received drone video on Tuesday of a possible great white shark, estimated to be 10–12 feet in length, that was spotted off the southern end of Richmond Island in the vicinity of Higgins Beach and Scarborough Beach.
A shark was also spotted near Pine Point Beach on Tuesday.
Scarborough officials say this notice is being shared for public situational awareness.
