Suspect accused of strangling girlfriend in Columbia arrested in Texas
COLUMBIA, Md. —
Howard County police said the man accused of strangling his girlfriend over the weekend in Columbia was arrested on Monday afternoon by local authorities in Texas.
According to Howard County Police, a warrant was issued for the arrest of Darwin Carcamo-Santiago, 24, in connection to the death of Esmeralda Perez-Mendez, 35, of Takoma Park. He is wanted for allegedly strangling Perez-Mendez inside a residence in the 9000 block of Watchlight Court.
Police said they responded to the residence on July 26 after an acquaintance of the suspect found Perez-Mendez dead in the suspect’s bedroom.
According to police, the victim suffered injuries consistent with strangulation and detectives believe she was killed in the overnight hours on July 25-26.
They have described him as a Hispanic man who is 5 feet 7 inches tall and weighs 140 pounds with black hair.
