LOGAN — Intermountain Health Logan Regional Hospital officially opened its expanded Gossner Cancer Center Radiation Oncology facility last week, adding advanced cancer treatment technology designed to improve access to specialized care for patients across Northern Utah and surrounding communities.
Hospital leaders said the expansion will allow more patients to receive sophisticated cancer treatments closer to home, reducing the need to travel outside the region while remaining near family and local support systems.
The expansion includes a High Dose Rate (HDR) brachytherapy suite, a GE Widebore CT simulator, a Varian TrueBeam linear accelerator vault and control room, a patient recovery and holding room, and a radioligand hot lab and procedure suite.
“The expansion of the Gossner Cancer Center provides our oncology specialists at Intermountain Logan Regional Hospital with the ability to provide our patients and the community with the best cancer treatment care possible, while allowing them to remain close to home for cancer services,” said Brandon McBride, president of Intermountain Logan Regional Hospital.
McBride said the project reflects the hospital’s continued commitment to meeting the region’s growing healthcare needs by expanding access to advanced cancer therapies locally.
“Bringing these capabilities closer to home helps reduce travel burdens and allows patients and families to remain connected to their local support systems throughout their treatment,” McBride said. “This state-of-the-art cancer equipment and highly advanced radiation therapy treatment options further enhance the incredible care being provided to our community.”
The Gossner Cancer Center offers a range of cancer services, including medical oncology, radiation oncology, hematology, genetic counseling, oncology nutrition, patient navigation, survivorship services, supportive care and community education programs.
Hospital officials said the expansion strengthens the center’s ability to provide comprehensive, precision-focused cancer care throughout every stage of a patient’s treatment.
The July 22nd grand opening featured a ribbon-cutting ceremony, guided tours of the expanded facility, opportunities to meet members of the oncology care team and demonstrations of the new technology now available to patients in Northern Utah.
Intermountain Health said the project represents another step in its effort to expand access to innovative, patient-centered cancer care throughout the region.
