After just two seasons wearing teal, the Tahoe Knight Monsters are swapping it out for a new colour.
The ECHL affiliate of the NHL‘s Vegas Golden Knights and the AHL‘s Henderson Silver Knights rolled out their new colours on Friday, July 24, with two shades of light blue — “Sky Blue” and “Powder Blue” — replacing teal in their palette while gold and black remain. Aside from the new colour, their logos will remain the same.
The organization didn’t really give any concrete reasoning for the decision on their website and social media channels. A press release on the ECHL’s website said: “The new shades of blue represent the bright skies and crystal clear water that have become synonymous with the Lake Tahoe area.”
“This new color change embraces the picturesque views of the Lake Tahoe area,” added Knight Monsters majority owner David Hodges in the release. “We’re excited to see the community rally around this change, and we look forward to seeing everyone out at the rink for what will be an exciting season!”

Opinions on the new colours on social media are skew toward disliking the change. “Boooo. The blue is lacklustre and boring. Bring back the teal!” said one Facebook commenter. Other detractors bemoaned the fact they’d need to buy new merchandise. And, of course, there is the obligatory Michael Scott “NO! GOD! NO! PLEASE NO!” response in GIF form.
Friday’s announcement didn’t address if or how the Knight Monsters’ jersey designs would change alongside the updated colors.
The Knight Monsters unveiled their name and logo in November 2023, ahead of officially taking the ice at the start of the 2024-25 season. In their two seasons at the Tahoe Blue Event Center in Stateline, Nevada, the team been knocked out of the Kelly Cup playoffs by the Kansas City Mavericks twice, in the second round in 2025 and in the first round in 2026.
Tahoe’s 2026-27 ECHL regular season begins on Friday, October 17, when they host the Idaho Steelheads for a three-game weekend series.
