On Tuesday, the Cleveland Browns made waves by giving cornerback Denzel Ward a two-year, $62.2 million extension that makes him the highest-paid cornerback in the league. It turns out that the Browns weren’t finished locking up members of their secondary.
According to NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport, the Browns and Delpit agreed to a three-year, $48 million extension on Wednesday. Per Rapoport, the deal will include $35 million guaranteed.
Delpit, a 2020 second-round pick out of LSU, was entering the final year of a three-year extension. The 27-year-old missed his rookie season with a torn Achilles, but he’s been a staple of the Browns’ defense ever since. Last season, he appeared in all 17 games and finished with 89 tackles, three sacks, and an interception.
