MAPLETON, N.D. (Valley News Live) – Mapleton resident reported seeing what they believed to be a mountain lion near Annie’s Lane Wednesday morning, according to the Cass County Sheriff’s Office.
The sheriff’s office was notified of the report around 8:30 a.m. However, the sighting has not been confirmed.
The sheriff’s office is working with the North Dakota Game and Fish Department to monitor the situation.
What authorities are saying
The department said without physical evidence, it is difficult to confirm or rule out a reported mountain lion sighting. The department also noted that while sightings are uncommon, mountain lions can occasionally be seen anywhere in the state.
What residents should do
Residents are encouraged to remain aware of their surroundings. If a mountain lion is observed, authorities say not to approach it — instead, maintain a safe distance and call 911.
