LENOIR COUNTY, N.C. (WITN) – A rabid raccoon has been found in Lenoir County.
The Lenoir County Health Department says the racoon was discovered near Live Oak Hog County Road in Deep Run.
Tests done by the state confirmed the animal tested positive for rabies.
The health department reminds people:
Tell the health department, the hospital, or your doctor if you have been scratched or bitten by or have handled an animal that could be rabidDo not approach or touch a wild animal or an animal that could be rabidEnsure pets are to to date on rabies vaccinationsKeep pets away from stray or wild animals
