Fox News anchor Jon Scott delivered a devastating reality check to Donald Trump after polling revealed most Americans aren’t on board with the President’s economic promises.

A recent Fox survey showed just 44 percent of Americans support the President’s handling of the economy, while a crushing 55 percent disapprove. Even more damaging, six out of 10 Americans point the finger directly at Trump for skyrocketing living costs, according to recent polling data.

Scott was joined by Republican South Carolina Congressman Ralph Norman, who wasn’t shocked by the poll results but insisted public opinion is always shifting. The lawmaker also argued that while prices are climbing, it’s “for the good of the country.”

Jon kicked off the segment, “Congressman, Americans largely disapprove of the economic policies of this President. At least right now. 55 percent say they disapprove of his job on the economy while 44 percent approve. Can you explain those numbers?”

Congressman Norman responded, “A lot of people are seeing a lot of higher prices. Our family is in the construction business and we get a lot of our timber from Canada and other countries. Yes, it’s higher. Steel prices are up.”

He then added, “But it’s good for our country.” The 72-year-old, who recently launched a run for governor, continued, “Should we expect high prices for a short time? Yes.”

Norman continued, “But overall, we couldn’t keep going the way we were going. The cancer in this country was letting other countries rule the day and tax our products, and why should we run a deficit every month?”

He claimed, “And that’s why this president is doing such a good job. And you can’t go on – poll numbers vary, they come up, they go down. But the bottom line is, he’s doing the right thing, and it couldn’t come at a better time. Things will get better here.”

The comments come as Trump’s sweeping tariffs took effect on Thursday following months of postponements and efforts to reach fresh deals with other nations. The majority of U.S. imports are now hit with tariffs of 10 percent.

Meanwhile, Norman recently lauded Trump’s international policy moves and claimed the President’s choice to strike Iran’s nuclear weapons program in backing Israel “is going to put him in the annals of the greatest presidents we have ever had.”
