MADISON COUNTY, Miss. (WLBT) – A black bear was caught on camera crossing Gluckstadt Road and entering a nearby yard, the latest sighting in the metro area this week.
George Tickner was driving to work around 6 a.m. Thursday when the bear emerged from the woods. His video shows the animal stopping, looking both ways, then darting across the road.
Tickner said he has already given the bear a name — Yogi.
“I’ve never seen a black bear in person. It was unreal and I couldn’t believe it,” Tickner said. “I thought it was kind of crazy that he was so close to where I live and where other families live. I don’t know that I’m too worried about it just because they don’t seem to be that dangerous. Definitely kind of interested to see if there are more and kind of want to see more.”
This is the latest black bear sighting in the metro this week. Residents also reported spotting a bear near the Reservoir in Rankin County. It is not clear if it is the same animal.
