VERONA, Wis. — A free pop-up clinic is bringing medical, dental and vision care to people in need this weekend at Verona Area High School.

Remote Area Medical completed the first day of its two-day clinic Saturday. The clinic is open to everyone, regardless of insurance status or income. Patients do not need identification or proof of residency, and all services are free on a first-come, first-served basis.

Organizers said the clinic is designed to remove financial barriers that can prevent people from receiving routine care before minor health problems become more serious.

“Getting kiddos to see for the first time, putting on a pair of glasses and saying, ‘Oh my gosh, I can read my textbook when I go home’ — it’s truly every single moment matters,” said Haileigh Henry, a clinic coordinator at Remote Area Medical. “It’s all such a life-changing experience for each and every patient who walks through those doors.”

Henry said clinics like this often serve people who have gone months or even years without seeing a doctor or dentist because they could not afford care.

“We had a gentleman who had never seen a dentist in his entire life,” Henry said. “He was in his early 30s and came in today just hoping that maybe he could get to see a dentist for his concerns. He left with the biggest smile on his face, just thanking us for being able to smile again.”

According to organizers, the clinic depends on volunteers who donate their time, with many traveling from neighboring states to provide care at no cost.

“It’s always an outpouring of love and support,” Henry added. “These people are coming out of their homes and dedicating their time and doing this completely for free, just out of the kindness of their hearts. It’s an incredible thing to watch.”

The clinic continues Sunday at Verona Area High School. Doors open at 6 a.m., and patients are encouraged to arrive early because services are available on a first-come, first-served basis.
