ATLANTA, Ga. – Taken in the 20th round with the 606th pick overall, Portland Pilots two-way player Curtis Hebert was selected by the Houston Astros in the 2025 MLB Draft on Monday. He is the second Pilot taken in the draft, the 12th since Portland head coach Geoff Loomis took over in 2016 and the 71st in program history to be drafted.

Hebert makes it seven Pilots to now be active currently with an MLB organization, joining Chad Stevens, Cooper Hummel, Sam Stuhr, Nick Brink, Joey Gartrell and Tyler Howard. Stevens recently earned his first call up to the big leagues with the Los Angeles Angels while Hummel currently plays for the Houston Astros. Brink is with the Beloit Sky Carp in High A while Stuhr and Gartrell are in Single A with the Stockton Ports and Salem Red Sox respectively. Howard was drafted on Monday as well, taken in the 11th round by the Cleveland Guardians.

Hebert made 13 appearances with seven starts for the Pilots on the mound and played 31 games with 25 starts at the plate. As a pitcher, Hebert posted a 4.25 ERA with a 2-1 record, throwing 53 strikeouts as well. He hit .238 as well, mashing three home runs.

The Pilots went 22-30 overall this season and also 13-11 in WCC play, qualifying for the WCC Tournament for the fourth straight season. They’ve posted five straight seasons of 20 wins or more for the first time since 2012 and have done so in seven of the last eight seasons.

Portland Head Coach Geoff Loomis on Hebert

“I had a suspicion Curtis was going to get drafted today, and it came down to the wire! I couldn’t be happier for Curtis, his family and for the recognition our program continues to get for developing professional quality players. Big day for Curtis and the Pilots!”
