The Emirates NBA Cup in-season tournament hasn’t been kind to the Bulls through the first two years of its existence, and it’s not like Year 3 lines up with an easy road, either.

The team announced the four-game pool play schedule on Wednesday, opening up Cup play Oct. 31 at home to face the New York Knicks. Game 2 for the Bulls is close by, heading up the highway to Milwaukee on Nov. 7, while they will host Miami on Nov. 21, and wrap up pool play in Charlotte on Nov. 28.

The way the Cup is set up is that all 30 NBA teams were randomly drawn into six groups of five within their conference, and based on the win-loss record from the 2024-25 regular season. The Bulls were put into East Group C alongside basement dweller Charlotte as well as Miami, Milwaukee and New York.

There will be three group winners and one wild card then making it to the single-elimination knockout rounds, beginning on Dec. 9 and Dec. 10.

The Finals will again be in Las Vegas where in-season champion will be crowned. The Bulls are yet to escape pool play since the Cup started.

The Bulls have several players on the fringe of All-Star status, but only one has a chance to be elite. That’s the weight Buzelis carries for the franchise and the front office.

This has been a franchise where great NBA coaches have been made extinct by the hierarchy. It’s not a great job and hasn’t been for decades. Credit this front office for at least getting the coach right and buying into continuity.
