The top 70 players in the FedExCup standings get to tee off at the FedEx St. Jude Championship next week in Memphis.
Entering the Wyndham Championship, the bubble was as tight as ever with a little more than 100 points separating the 65th and 80th ranked players. While seemingly arbitrary, this stretch of names on the playoff points list is the proverbial playoff “bubble.”
Some have fared better with that pressure over the first 36 holes at Sedgefield, with veterans like Jason Day and Stephan Jaeger succumbing to it and shutting trunk before the weekend in North Carolina.
Jordan Smith and Matti Schmid are significantly improving their playoff outlook, while challenging for the winner’s circle.

Don’t forget about Beau
Nobody has helped their cause more at the Wyndham Championship than first-round leader Beau Hossler, who started the week ranked 122nd and now is projected to finish 53rd.
Hossler, who was playing his 800th round on Tour on Friday, made his birdie putt on the 18th hole to secure a 36-hole lead.
“Not going to talk about it, just going to play golf,” Hossler said when asked about being on the bubble. “But yes, of course, I want to win.”
Right behind Hossler on the leaderboard is Ben James, who shot an opening round 62 and sits T-2 with Smith entering the weekend.
James is projected to take a leap from No. 141 to No. 96 — still short of what he needs to qualify for a spot in the field in Memphis.
