Now-former Scarborough, Maine, police lieutenant indicted for theft

Adam BartowSCARBOROUGH, Maine —

A now-retired Lieutenant with the Scarborough Police Department has been indicted for theft.

A Cumberland County Grand Jury indicted Timothy Barker, 55, of Scarborough, on a charge of theft, Class B.

Barker retired as a Lieutenant with the Scarborough Police Department on Feb. 2, 2026, after 31 years of service.

A statement from the Scarborough Police Department says the alleged theft happened while Barker was still working for the department, but it does not say if the alleged theft involved department resources or property or was connected to his employment and position.

“The Scarborough Police Department consulted with the Maine Office of the Attorney General in December 2025 to make them aware of Barker’s alleged conduct. The Attorney General’s Office conducted a criminal investigation over the last several months resulting in the indictment,” the statement says.
