HUNGER: A MEMOIR OF (MY) BODY
ROXANE GAY EXECUTIVE PRODUCES AND WROTE THE SCREENPLAY

LOS ANGELES, CA (August 11, 2026) – Lifetime continues its commitment to bringing powerful, conversation-driving stories to audiences with Surviving the Silence: The Roxane Gay Story, executive produced and written by acclaimed author, cultural critic and New York Times bestselling writer Roxane Gay. Premiering Saturday, September 5, at 8/7c, the Lifetime Original Movie is adapted from Gay’s internationally praised 2017 memoir, Hunger: A Memoir of (My) Body, an unflinching examination of trauma, survival, body image and healing. As she grapples with the lasting effects of that trauma, Roxane turns to food as a means of survival, beginning a lifelong journey to understand her body, reclaim her voice and confront a society that often defines women by their appearance. Surviving the Silence: The Roxane Gay Story is a deeply personal portrait of resilience, identity and the enduring pursuit of self-acceptance.

Surviving the Silence: The Roxane Gay Story is executive produced by Suzanne Todd, Howard Braunstein and Roxane Gay in association with Suzanne Todd Productions. The film is directed by Asia Youngman from a screenplay written by Roxane Gay.
