ANDERSON, S.C. (FOX Carolina) – AnMed’s Facebook page appeared to be hacked Tuesday morning amid an ongoing cyberattack on the healthcare system.
A post was published to the page just after 9:30 a.m. and taken down around 10 a.m.
AnMed said the unauthorized content was removed, access through the platform was disabled and it is working with the provider to secure the accounts.
“The claims contained in the posts have not been verified. AnMed and its cybersecurity specialists are investigating the matter as part of the organization’s ongoing response to the cybersecurity incident identified on July 26. If the investigation determines personal information was affected, AnMed will provide appropriate notifications and additional information as it becomes available.”
The post, which featured an image of a character in a top hat and mask labeled “THE GENTLEMEN,” claimed that hackers have extracted six terabytes of confidential corporate and patient data.
According to the post, the compromised information includes highly sensitive patient files, such as:
Social Security numbers, dates of birth, and home addressesMedical histories, lab results, and prescription recordsReproductive health, abortion, and prenatal recordsPediatric, psychiatric, and mental health databasesSexual assault, harassment, and rape victim records
By 10:30 a.m., the entire AnMed Facebook page was no longer active.
