CRAWFORDVILLE, Fla. — Joseph Ronnie Raker has been transferred from Mexican custody to authorities in the United States and is now being held by the Hidalgo County Sheriff’s Office in Texas as legal proceedings begin to return him to Florida.

Raker is wanted on two counts of homicide and is the primary suspect in the deaths of Rebecca Lynn Thomas and John William Luper III.

Authorities said they are thanking the United States Marshals Service, Mexican authorities, the Hidalgo County Sheriff’s Office and other law enforcement and prosecutorial partners for their continued cooperation.

The investigation remains active, and additional arrests are expected.
