A boil advisory is in effect Saturday until further notice for many water customers in Hillsborough following a water main leak.
A boil advisory means water needs to be boiled before drinking, cooking or brushing teeth. The advisory was announced at 3 a.m. for the following areas in the town’s central water zone:
The downtown areaWest HillsboroughThe north side of U.S. 70A to Lawrence Road, except for Forest RidgeTuscarora and Morelanda drives
According to the town of Hillsborough, the boil water advisory affects all customers who experienced low water pressure Friday evening into Saturday. Call the water treatment plant at 919-732-3621 if you are unsure if you are in the affected area.
The town is asking residents to conserve water after a 6-inch water main leak on Elizabeth Brady Road overnight. Water pressure issues are expected to be resolved by Saturday afternoon.
“We apologize for the inconvenience and are grateful for our water dedicated town staff who are working overnight to resolve the problem,” said utilities director Marie Strandwitz.
Some restaurants may close as a result of the boil water advisory.
