Another bear was spotted in Utah County, marking the third this week and the sixth this month.

Springville Police warned residents that a bear was spotted near 50 N 1400 E on Saturday morning. The bear was then seen running back up the mountain.

“Keep a watchful eye on children and pets. Secure your garbage, pet food, or other potential food sources,” officials said.

Police said if any residents see the bear, they can call 911 or their non-emergency line at 801-489-9421.

The Springville sighting comes after several bears were spotted in Utah County over the last few days.

The first was a young bear that was seen in a Provo neighborhood. It was later found on Wednesday near 1600 North and 1450 East and relocated.

The next sighting was on Thursday morning when a bear was seen running across the street near Payson High School.

Earlier this month, a mama bear and her two cubs were found in a tree in Mapleton. The three bears were captured and relocated by crews with the Utah Division of Wildlife Resources.

DWR official said Utah’s drought conditions have limited plants and vegetation, which is about 90% of a black bear’s diet. This leads to bears looking for alternative food sources, including in garbage cans and campgrounds.

It is unclear at this time if the bear spotted in Springville is the same one that was seen in Payson earlier this week.
