Tigers look to rebound after being swept over the weekend, as road trip starts against the Pirates
After taking two of three games from Boston over the weekend, the Pittsburgh Pirates continue their homestand on Monday night as they welcome the slumping Detroit Tigers into PNC Park for the first game in their three-game midweek series. After trading away a pair of starting pitchers at the trade deadline, the Tigers appeared to have turned things around, winning nine out of 12 games, but were swept over the weekend by the White Sox and are in danger of missing out on the playoffs as they sit 5.5 games behind Chicago for the AL Central lead and are part of a seven-team pursuit of the final Wild Card spot in the American League.

Pirates third baseman Nick Gonzales ranks sixth in Major League Baseball, hitting a team-leading .307 at the plate this season, and comes into Monday with four multi-hit efforts in his last 10 games. Gonzales, now in his fourth season with the Pirates, has posted career highs in runs scored, hits, doubles, and RBI’s this season after representing Mexico in the 2026 World Baseball Classic back in March.
