Michigan Wolverines football has named its four captains ahead of the 2026 season, voted by the team on Monday. Graduate defensive back Rod Moore, senior defensive tackle Trey Pierce, junior running back Jordan Marshall and sophomore quarterback Bryce Underwood.
Moore is the second time three-time captain in Michigan football history and first in the modern era. The other was Horace Greely Prettyman, who captained the Wolverines from 1884-86, according to the Bentley Historical Library.
Conversely, Underwood is the first sophomore captain in the program’s modern history. All 4 players were elected spring captains by head coach Kyle Whittingham’s Wolverines.
Michigan has also set the leadership council for its 2026 team.
“Coach Kyle Whittingham also announced the selection of the program’s Leadership Council for the 2026 season,” Michigan said in a release on Monday night. “The team captains and the following 12 players are the representatives on the leadership council: S Nico Andrighetto, CB Zeke Berry, LB Troy Bowles, DE Cam Brandt, WR JJ Buchanan, DE John Henry Daley, DT Enow Etta, OL Blake Frazier, OL Jake Guarnera, CB Jyaire Hill, WR Andrew Marsh and OL Andrew Sprague.”
Michigan players vote on and elect the team captains. Historically, the program has limited the vote to seniors, but Whittingham has opened it up to everyone. He has stated plans to vote on captains and a leadership council for both the spring and fall camps under his watch.
