State investigators said the babysitter, Lakesha Brown of Alabama, gained the mother’s trust over about a year before taking the children. The children were originally abducted Saturday around 6 p.m. from James P. Brawley Drive NW in Atlanta.
Police said they were dispatched around 10:30 p.m. Sunday for what was initially thought to be a custody dispute.
The mother delayed calling 911 because Brown had provided false information, claiming she was returning the children and later saying she had been in an accident, police said.
An Amber Alert was issued for the children.
Brown was taken into custody after the children were located on Sylvan Road in Atlanta, the Atlanta Police Department said Monday.

Members of the police department’s fugitive unit acted on a tip from someone on the property about a woman staying in a private trailer. Detectives heard a baby crying and entered the trailer, where they found Brown and the children.
The children appeared to be in good health and were taken to a hospital for evaluation.
Previous kidnapping charges
Brown, a Birmingham woman, was already facing charges in a separate kidnapping case in Alabama. Authorities said she had an outstanding warrant for failing to appear in court for that case, which had similar circumstances.
Alabama court records matched her name and date of birth to the Georgia Bureau of Investigation’s Amber Alerts for the children.
Authorities said they are hoping to learn a motive once they interview Brown at police headquarters.
