An earthquake shook the North Carolina mountains Thursday morning. According to the U.S. Geological Survey, the earthquake struck 4.4 miles north of Columbus, NC at 11:14 a.m. Thursday, August 14. Columbus is a town in Polk County with 994 residents. It is located about 15 miles from Hendersonville, NC.As of 12:38 pm EST there have been 551 reports of the earthquake being felt.
