NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WZTV) — Tennessee high school athletics are not allowed to recruit student-athletes, but new documents obtained by FOX17 News show some schools are facing penalties for breaking the rules.
Since July 1, TSSAA officials tell FOX17 News’ Johnny Maffei four schools are facing different recruiting penalties. Those schools include:
Knoxville Catholic High School (Football)Clarksville Academy (Football)Tipton-Rosemary High School (Basketball)Cordova High School (Basketball)
Knoxville Catholic faces the harshest penalties including a fine, losing offseason practice time, a coach suspension, and a 2026 postseason ban, per TSSAA. The body says the suspended coach texted a player encouraging him to transfer.

Clarksville Academy is losing some offseason practice time and facing fines for a coach not directing a prospective player towards admissions before dealing with athletics.
