Jake Reiner, son of Rob and Michelle Reiner, gave an interview for the first time since his parents’ deaths. He described how his life has changed since his parents were stabbed and his brother, Nick, was accused of the crime. “Nobody really understands what it’s like to go through something like that until you’re living it,” Jake told ABC 7. “It’s been eight months. It feels like eight years at the same time. And it also feels like eight minutes because every moment that I wake up, I’m reminded of my reality.” He described how, in one night, he lost over half his family. “[Nick’s] in jail,” Jake said. “It’s like, I physically lost my parents, and then Nick was arrested. Now it’s just me and [his sister] Romy, and we have to navigate this by ourselves essentially.”
Rob and Michelle Reiner were killed on December 14, 2025, and Nick is charged with two counts of murder. When he found out about his parents’ deaths, Jake was at a celebration of life for a high-school friend. “Romy called me, and I screened it because I thought at the time, I’m in the middle of something, you know, I’ll call her back,” he described. “And then she called immediately again, and I knew at that point that something was wrong.”
When discussing his current mental state, Jake was forthcoming about how difficult this time period has been. “For me, it manifests into anger,” he said. “It manifests into rage, into how unfair this was, how I didn’t get a say in what happened. I didn’t get to stop it from happening. I had no choice in the matter. I just have to accept the reality of it. And to me, that is just one of the most infuriating parts of all of this.” Nick, who has entered a not-guilty plea, will appear next in court on September 15 for a pretrial hearing.
