LEWISTON, Maine (WGME) — Some surgeries at Central Maine Medical Center are being postponed after state regulators found a problem with equipment used to sterilize surgical instruments.

The Maine Department of Health and Human Services discovered the issue at the Lewiston hospital last week.

CMMC says some non-urgent surgeries are being rescheduled, while some patients who need more immediate care are being sent to other hospitals.

Maine Medical Center in Portland and Mid Coast Hospital in Brunswick have already taken several patients.

State and federal regulators are investigating, and CMMC has not said when full surgical services will resume.
