Nottingham Forest are working on a deal to sign Harrison Armstrong from Everton.
Talks for the 19-year-old midfielder, who has made 22 first-team appearances for Everton, centre on a deal worth around £40million plus a sell-on clause.
Armstrong has previously had loan spells at Championship clubs Derby County and Preston North End, but has been integrated into David Moyes’s first-team squad since his return to the club earlier this year.
The central midfielder was named in Everton’s starting line-up for Saturday’s Premier League match at Bournemouth.
Forest are aiming to strengthen in central midfield after England international Elliot Anderson joined Manchester City in a for a fee of £116million ($153m) earlier in the window.
Austria international Xaver Schlager, who arrived as a free agent after leaving RB Leipzig earlier this summer, has featured in Forest’s opening two games of the campaign but the club are hopeful of adding another midfielder to Oliver Glasner’s squad.
Everton’s midfield has undergone change this summer too, with Hayden Hackney and Christian Norgaard joining from Middlesbrough and Arsenal respectively, while Merlin Rohl’s move from Freiburg was made permanent following a loan spell.
