Tim NazzaroPAXTON, Mass. —

A black bear was caught on camera getting a late-night snack in Paxton, Massachusetts, on Friday night.

Viewer video sent to NewsCenter 5 by Pam Lovejoy shows the bear chowing down on a bird feeder.

Lovejoy said she is now off to buy a replacement pole and bird feeder.

“Can’t blame the bear; we all just need a snack sometimes!” she said.

MassWildlife is reminding residents that the best way to avoid conflicts with black bears is to make food harder for them to find in your neighborhood.

Black bears spend more time in residential areas where food is easily accessible.

Here are some tips to keep bears away from your home:

Take down bird feeders.Secure garbage, compost, and other attractants.Protect your chickens, goats, and other livestock.

Residents are also encouraged to keep their dogs leashed whenever they’re outside, especially if there is a bear nearby.
