MYRTLE BEACH, SC (WMBF) – A Myrtle Beach woman got the thrill of a lifetime this week when dozens of dolphins surrounded her and her husband during a jet ski ride just off Waties Island.
Kimberly Malibu-Grove said the encounter happened Wednesday in the waters near the island, which sits just above Cherry Grove, right before the South Carolina-North Carolina border.
She said the pod numbered around 50 dolphins, several of which leaped from the water around the couple’s jet ski.
Video captured by Malibu-Grove shows one dolphin launching high into the air just feet from the couple, getting close enough that her husband had to steer the jet ski out of the way.
“If he wouldn’t have moved the jet ski out of the way from that last one, he would have hit us,” Malibu-Grove said.
Even with the dolphin’s close approach, Malibu-Grove said it only added to an unforgettable day on the water.
“This was such an amazing experience. We have such a love for dolphins,” she said.
She called it a once-in-a-lifetime encounter.
