CHARLESTON, S.C. (WCIV) — Charleston residents are invited to pick up a paintbrush and help create a new community mural Tuesday at the Mitchell Playground pedestrian bridge on the city’s Westside.
The mural project, organized through the City of Charleston’s Love Your Block program, will give community members an opportunity to participate in painting a large-scale artwork designed by local artist Blake Suarez. Participants will contribute to the mural using a paint-by-number format.

The community painting celebration is scheduled for 5 to 7 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 1, at the pedestrian bridge located at 145 Fishburne St.
The event is intended to bring residents together, officials said, while adding a new public art feature to the neighborhood. In addition to mural painting, attendees can enjoy live music from a bluegrass band, food trucks and family-friendly activities.
The event is being held in partnership with the Westside Neighborhood and is open to community members of all ages.
The Love Your Block program supports neighborhood-driven improvement projects and community engagement efforts throughout Charleston.
