TYLER, Texas (KLTV) – Thousands of animal lovers took to social media to decide the names of the Caldwell Zoo’s baby ocelot cubs born earlier this year.
The male cubs, born to mother Maya, will be named Calvin and Hobbes after the zoo held a naming contest that began in August.
Online voters chose from three name pairs: Calvin and Hobbes, Cisco and Rio, and Macchu and Piccu.
Earlier this summer, zoo officials gave the brothers a clean bill of health after their first veterinary exam.

Born in June, the ocelots are said to be active, healthy and on track developmentally.
While more than one million wild ocelots remain worldwide, fewer than 100 remain in the wild in Texas, according to The Nature Conservancy.
The cubs are part of the zoo’s collaboration with other conservation groups to protect species like the ocelot. The collaboration includes breeding with the goal of releasing offspring into their South Texas habitats.
