A person from out-of-state may have exposed others to measles while at the New Stanton Service Plaza on the westbound side Pennsylvania Turnpike, according to the state Department of Health.
The potential exposure happened on Aug. 17, officials said.
Anyone who was at the service plaza that day in areas including Burger King, Starbucks, Sunoco, 7-11, restrooms and the dining area is encouraged to check their vaccination status and monitor themselves for symptoms, health officials said.
Symptoms include a fever, cough, runny nose and red, watery eyes that can start seven to 21 days after exposure. A rash starts on the head or face and spreads downward. Measles is a virus that infects the lungs and spreads when an infected person breaths, coughs or sneezes, according to the CDC.
Anyone who isn’t vaccinated against the highly contagious virus and may have been exposed is asked to contact their healthcare provider or the state Department of Health at 877-724-3258.
