AMARILLO, Texas (KFDA) – The Amarillo Art Institute is opening a new exhibit Friday celebrating the Route 66 centennial.
The institute will hold an opening reception for “The Mother Road: Open Air, Open Road” Sept. 4 at 4 p.m. at Arts in the Sunset, 3701 Plains Blvd.
The opening reception is open to the public.
The exhibit features original works from 46 artists along Route 66 in Texas, New Mexico, and Arizona.
“Our goal is to preserve the visual story of Route 66 through contemporary plein air painting,” said Phyllis Gunderson, event chair. “Every plein air painting becomes a unique interpretation of one of America’s most treasured byways, connecting artists with our treasured heritage and communities.”
The artwork will be available to buy.
The exhibit will be on display through Oct. 3.
