’90s Star Reveals the ‘Anxiety’-Inducing Rule on Set of Fan-Favorite Childhood Movie originally appeared on Parade.
Devon Sawa has played many roles over the years — Casper, Stan, everyone’s collective ’90s crush — but there’s one aspect of his on-set childhood that still sticks with him today.
On Wednesday, August 13, Sawa took to X to reflect on how this one rule on Little Giants still gives him “anxiety” while filming, even more than 30 years later. (The 1994 family movie featured Sawa as Junior, one of the preteen football players on the underdog team coached by Rick Moranis.)
“On Little Giants, we would get in trouble if we didn’t hang our clothes, including pads and helmet, at the end of each shoot day,” the Now and Then star, 46, posted Wednesday. “Now, still to this day, if wardrobe takes away my hangers, preventing me from doing so, I get high amounts of anxiety.”
Despite the stressful memory, the Final Destination actor — who has recently been making the rounds promoting Stans, Eminem’s new documentary — had only good things to say about filming Little Giants during a memorabilia unboxing video with People.
In the 2024 video, Sawa delightfully unpacked everything he (a.k.a., his mom) had kept from his movie career throughout the years — including his original Little Giants football helmet and jersey.
The Idle Hands star, who grew up in Vancouver, joked about how he was “a young Canadian hockey player in full football gear” during the film, having never stepped into a football uniform before the movie.
“Little Giants was a blast. It didn’t feel like work to me,” Sawa remembered fondly. “You’re with all these kids your own age, it’s just like summer camp, kinda.” He made a similar reference to filming Now and Then, which came out one year later.
After pulling out an unopened VHS tape of Little Giants, Sawa got noticeably excited.
“I think I can get, like, $750 for this bad boy. … The ol’ VHS tape in the wrapper!” he joked, his eyes lighting up.
Though the Chucky star revealed he wasn’t actually about to sell the tape on eBay, fans can instead rest assured that Sawa still keeps in touch with some of his Little Giants pals.
“They’re old friends,” he said, specifically noting he still talks to Shawna Waldron (Becky) Marcus Toji (Marcus) and Troy Simmons (Hanon).
