Tomorrow, Huawei’s Mate XT 2 tri-fold and Xiaomi’s wide-fold smartphones will clash in China, officially kicking off a month-long flagship battle among different smartphone makers.
Huawei will be the first to unveil its Mate XT 2 Ultimate Design foldable at the all-scenario new product launch conference at noon. Meanwhile, Xiaomi has picked the evening slot to unveil the Xiaomi 18 Fold.
Huawei Mate XT 2 will adopt a new internal folding design compared to the zig-zag first-gen. It will unfold like wings on the left and the right sides. A new addition will be a cover screen, carrying a large pill-shaped camera cutout on the front.
Yu Chengdong, Chairman of the Smart Consumer Business Group (CBG), said that the Mate XT 2 is the first to bring a tri-fold device with a 3.5 mm thin body. This new Huawei device will come with the industry’s first privacy screen on a foldable smartphone. It employs a new RGB pixel design that will retain the picture quality.
The device will use Huawei’s new Logic Fold chipset designed to be the most powerful Kirin chip ever produced. The Huawei Mate XT 2 comes in three colors – black, white, and purple featuring different design schemes.
On the other hand, Xiaomi 18 Fold adopts a wide-fold form factor. It includes a 5.38-inch cover screen and a 7.58-inch internal display.
The company is aiming for a synchronized experience of a bar-type phone and a medium tablet in a single device that fits right into the user’s pocket.
Xiaomi 18 Fold will use its in-house Xring 03 chipset, processed with 3nm TSMC technology and HyperOS 4. The phone will use a Leica triple camera system including a 200MP main camera, a 50MP 3.5x periscope telephoto lens, and a 50MP ultra-wide-angle lens.
In addition to the foldables, traditional bar-type flagship products are also in-line for the launch: Huawei Mate 90 series, Xiaomi 18 series, Honor Magic 9 series, Vivo X500 series, Oppo Find X10 series, and more.
