CHAPEL HILL, N.C. (WTVD) — UNC-Chapel Hill head football coach Bill Belichick held his first media briefing Monday, less than a week after the resignation of the program’s general manager, Michael Lombardi.
Belichick says the team is focused on the home-opener against East Tennessee State at Kenan Stadium on Saturday.
He did not mention Lombardi’s resignation. He did make this one statement:
“Understand the importance of the work that’s being done by the investigative team and, obviously, our high standard here, our code of conduct, doing things the right way.”
Despite not having Lombardi for the start of the season, UNC won its season opener against TCU in Dublin by a score of 15-10.
Belichick said he looks to capitalize on that win.

The university announced last Thursday that General Manager of the football program Michael Lombardi resigned.
At a Faculty Council meeting Friday, Chancellor Lee Roberts did not address the investigation.

Lombardi Investigation
Lombardi’s resignation comes 38 days after the university placed him on paid administrative leave following an HR complaint from a former football staffer. The university has not disclosed the nature of the complaint.
University leaders confirm its internal investigation is continuing and an outside legal counsel is also conducting a separate investigation.
Lombardi was the highest-paid general manager in college football, earning more than $1.5 million annually. According to the university, his contract does not provide for additional pay following his resignation.
