SPRINGFIELD, Mo. (KY3) – The Springfield Art Museum has received more than $81,000 for a community project.
The museum says the money will fund the “Art is Everywhere” initiative during its ongoing construction. The program aims to make art more accessible with pop-up exhibits, hands-on crafts, and take-home projects.
The museum says these efforts are especially important now, as its main facility is closed for renovations. Instead of pausing community efforts, museum leaders say the initiative will help keep the community engaged in art.
“We have been in the community for almost 100 years,” said Kate Francis, executive director of the Springfield Art Museum Foundation. “It’ll be 100 years in 2028, so we could not envision a couple of years of doing nothing with our community members. We’ve also been taking the programs into communities that haven’t necessarily had as much engagement with the art museum, so making new friends and introducing people to what the art museum can bring.”
As construction on the museum continues, staff plan to continue offering public programs and exhibits across the city. The museum says it hopes to have the work done by its 100th anniversary in 2028.
