Durham firefighters worked to put out a fire at North Carolina Central University’s campus early Wednesday morning.
The WRAL Breaking News Tracker was there as firefighters responded to the Physical Plant Building located at 206 Eagle Campus Drive.
The fire was reported around 4:30 a.m. When crews arrived, they discovered a fire in a mechanical room.
A police officer at the scene said no one was inside the building at the time of the fire. No one was injured.
Firefighters were able to control the fire quickly and cleared the scene just before 6:30 a.m.
Officials are working to learn the extent of the damage.
According to the university’s newspaper, the building houses the mechanical units that serve the university.
Since the building is owned by the state, the fire is under investigation by the North Carolina Office of State Fire Marshal.
