Nintendo has announced Metroid Ravenous for the Switch 2, the latest mainline entry in the iconic sci-fi series.
It will launch on 28th January 2027. Amiibo and a special edition have also been confirmed!
As for the footage, it looks like a proper continuation of Metroid Dread, albeit with maybe even more melee combat than ever before. It looks like you’ll be able to feed on your enemies too, hence the name.
Other mechanics seem to include running on water, warping in mid-air, and executing finishing attacks. Here are some screenshots:

“It’s eat or be eaten for Samus Aran in an all-new 2D adventure, coming to Nintendo Switch 2! Plus, the Metroid Ravenous amiibo collection will release with individual Samus and Chozo Statue figures at launch. A third amiibo in the lineup, Samus (Metroid Suit), will be bundled with a Special Edition that includes the game and a steel game case. Both the standard and special editions launch Jan. 28, 2027, and pre-orders begin later today.”

Info on the Special Edition — specifically a price — hasn’t been revealed at the time of writing, although the game’s eShop listing confirmed that the regular version will be £49.99 / $59.99, at least for the digital version.
The game was previously rumoured to exist thanks to a Brazilian rating that surfaced earlier this summer.
