Malcolm in the Middle star turned NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series driver Frankie Muniz, who is in the middle of a tough debut season, has teamed up with NASCAR legend Kyle Petty’s charitable foundation, Victory Junction, to give 10 kids a well-deserved summer break.
Having first opened in 2004 in memory of Kyle’s son, Adam, who tragically died during a practice session for an Xfinity Series race in 2000, Victory Junction provides children aged between 6 and 16, who are suffering from serious medical conditions or illnesses, with a medically safe summer camp experience all year round and all for free.
After recently visiting the camp in North Carolina, Muniz, who currently drives the No. 33 Reaume Brothers Racing Ford, revealed in a video that he was starting a fundraiser, with the goal of raising $25,000, which would allow 10 kids to attend the foundation’s camp.
In the video, the 39-year-old explained how he was left “inspired” to help the foundation following a recent visit to their Camp’s NASCARnival.
A celebration held on a weekly basis throughout summer camp, it includes a NASCAR-style pit stop, driven on this occasion by Muniz, which allows the youngsters to try their hands at becoming a pit crew and changing the car’s tires. The event also allows the kids to play games, ride hot air balloons, and enjoy some tasty treats, as per Catchfence.
“With your support, let’s send 10 kids to camp,” Muniz said. “You can help children discover their own incredible potential as they soar down a zipline, catch a fish, ride a horse, hit a bullseye, perform on a stage, or even climb an adventure tower, all in a medically safe and accessible environment.
“This is your chance to help kids have fun, find community, and build confidence they’ll carry long after their time at camp.”
As of Thursday, Muniz’s fundraiser was nearing the $5,000 mark, with donations able to be made online via Victory Junction’s website.
This announcement came just prior to Muniz’s 27th-place finish at Watkins Glen – his first time racing the historic road course in the Truck Series. In what is his first full-time Truck season, Muniz has managed one top 10, in the season opener at Daytona, and a further two top 20 finishes in the No. 33.
DON’T MISS…
Just one regular-season race remains, with the Truck Series heading to Richmond Raceway on August 15, before the playoffs kick off at Darlington on August 30. Both tracks will be new to the former Agent Cody Banks star, although he’ll soon return to more familiar surroundings when they travel to Bristol on September 11.
Currently sits 22nd and last in the playoff picture, while he’s 23rd in the overall points standing, Muniz’s ambitions in the sport are sky high, as he recently explained in an interview with the Los Angeles Times. “If I wanted to go racing for fun,” he noted.
“I would not be racing in the Truck Series. I’d be racing at my local track or I’d be racing some SCCA club events. I want to be one of the top drivers there are. I want to make it as high up in NASCAR as I can. And I’m doing everything I can to do that.”
