CHATHAM, Va. (WDBJ) – The Town of Chatham has declared a Stage 2 Water Emergency – Drought Warning as of September 10, 2026, according to Pittsylvania County officials.
The county says all Town of Chatham water users are urged to implement water conservation methods as soon as possible.
The declaration is due to a current lack of rainfall, drought-like conditions persisting for most of 2026, and falling water levels at Cherrystone Lake and Roaring Fork Lake reservoirs.

Pittsylvania County says, “Chatham will remain under a Stage 2 Water Emergency until the drought abates, lake water levels rise to sufficient levels, or a Stage 3 or 4 declaration is issued. Please prepare for an extended drought.”
