Seth Jarvis won’t be available for the Hurricanes when the regular season starts as he works his way back from offseason shoulder surgery. The winger told reporters including Chip Alexander of the Raleigh News & Observer that recovery from the procedure is on track. He was originally expected to be out four to six months after having the surgery after the Stanley Cup Final, meaning the earliest he could return is late October. It’s unclear if the positive news means that Jarvis will be on the shorter end of that timeline but the news is still encouraging nonetheless. Jarvis will be LTIR-eligible to start the season, something that could come into play with Alexander Nikishin still needing a new deal.
Elsewhere in the East:
While Gavin McKenna was named to Toronto’s roster for rookie camp, he won’t be making his Maple Leafs debut this weekend. Marlies head coach Steve Sullivan told reporters Friday (video link) that the first-overall pick back in June will not accompany the team to Gatineau for this weekend’s prospects tournament. McKenna is widely expected to break camp with a prominent role for the Maple Leafs so it makes sense that they’re not going to risk injury in a rookie tournament contest.
Sabres prospect Topias Leinonen suffered a lower-body injury during offseason training, notes Rachel Lenzi of The Buffalo News (Twitter link). As a result, he won’t play in their rookie games this weekend with Rochester head coach Michael Leone mentioning that he’s unsure of the timetable for Leinonen’s return. The 22-year-old played his first season in North America in 2025-26, splitting time between the Amerks and ECHL Jacksonville.
The Senators won’t have one of their first-round picks available for this weekend’s rookie tourney. Postmedia’s Callum Fraser relays (Twitter link) that Jonas Lagerberg Hoen will only practice this weekend and not play. The 25th pick back in June, Lagerberg Hoen is returning from ACL surgery and the Sens have elected not to have him play those games for precautionary reasons. The 18-year-old was quite productive before being injured last season, tallying 16 points in nine junior games with Leksands in Sweden.
