Two decades after saying “I do,” Alan Ritchson and his wife, Catherine “Cat” Ritchson, have decided to end their marriage. The Ritchsons released a joint statement about their split on September 12.

“After twenty years together, Cat and I have decided to end our marriage and continue alongside one another in a different way,” their message began. “We grew up together. We built a life and a family together. And we are raising three incredible boys who will always be the center of our world.”

The statement continued, “Nothing can diminish what these years have meant to us — or the love and respect we will always share. The best gift we can give one another — and our boys — right now is friendship, grace and a commitment to becoming the strongest coparents we can be. We also want to give each other room to grow into the people we are becoming. Change is hard enough without the whole world weighing in. We hope, especially for the sake of our boys, that you will allow our family to move through this chapter with privacy and compassion. Thank you for supporting us as we continue making the health and happiness of our family our priority.”

Alan and Cat met in high school. They first crossed paths in a ballet class, but he was too shy to speak to her for months. “She was like the sweetest thing in the world,” he told Men’s Health as he recalled the moment he’d worked up the courage to talk to her.

They started dating, but Alan broke up with Cat at the end of their first summer together. They reconnected years later when she was attending the University of Florida, and Alan flew to Miami for a modeling gig. Alan and Cat married in 2006. They welcomed their first son, Calem, in 2012, followed by Edan in 2013 and Amory in 2015.

As Alan has been promoting Reacher Season 4 and new films like Motor City and Runner over the last few months, Cat and their three sons have been there to support him. “Was so fun to support Dad as a family yesterday for his appearance on @latenightseth Seth couldn’t have been more friendly and welcoming!” Cat captioned a July 2026 photo of their family.
